Eguaveon Doesn’t Play Aribo In Right Position- Leon Balogun
The Super Eagles defender has hailed Aribo over his impressive performances for club and country.
Super Eagles of Nigeria and Glasgow Rangers of Scotland star, Leon Balogun, has opined that his national and club teammate Joe Aribo is being played out of his position by Nigerian national team interim coach Austin Eguaveon.
accused Interim Super Eagles boss, Augustine Eguavoen of not playing Joe Aribo at his optimal position.
The 33-year-old defender opined that the midfielder would perform better if he is played in the no. 10 position.
“To me, he’s not playing in his best position. If you put him in as a No.10, he will give you more joy because he knows how to take on players, he knows how to delay the play in a way,’’ Balgoun said.
Balgoun, however, praised Aribo for his outstanding performances despite being played out of position. He stated that the Nigerian defender is making headway in his new position.
“So, I am happy he’s found a way to do it in a different position,” the Rangers star said.
The biracial footballer went further to commend the outstanding display put up by the midfielder in the current season across all competitions. He maintained that the midfielder has been in superb form since the start of the 2021/2022 league season and has equally been impressive at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
“I have always known he’s a great player, right from the time I started playing with him,’’ Balgoun pointed.
“He’s in great form this season and he managed to bring that to Nigeria in the last two games.’’
Balogun was born in Berlin, Germany, to a Nigerian father and a German mother. He plays for Rangers FC in the Scottish Premier League and is a regular in the Nigerian national team since making his debut in 2014. He missed out of participating at the 2021 AFCON due to an injury.
